Got tagged in Facebook and wrote my 25 things like a good little friend. I have all kinds of ideas for Vox posts but don't seem to be getting around to it. Hmmmm... So, to buy more time, here's 25 completely trivial, random things. Enjoy!
1) My family moved every four years from birth-high school graduation.
2) When I was little I wanted to be an entomologist or a wildlife-anthropologist (I made that up) who studies animals in the jungle. Still think that 2nd one would be awesome.
3) I told my 9th grade Civics teacher that I would be the first female president. Still could, I suppose, but have no interest.
4) If I was an animal, I would be a cat. Snuggly and cuddly and loving, but fiercely independent.
5) I have already had 2 careers and am working on my 3rd.
6) I have 3 brothers and loved being the only girl.
7) I was a synchronized swimmer in college.
8) I was born in the Year of the Monkey.
9) I did an Outward Bound course in high school and LOVED it. Did a bunch of things I never thought I would.
10) I'm scared of heights.
11) Because of #10, Ferris wheels scare the hell out of me, but I LOVE roller coasters.
12) Facebook is my lifeline to my friends and family throughout the country. I am so appreciative of it as a tool to stay connected.
13) All my pets were named after foods except one who is named after a hurricane.
14) I am perpetually pollyanna and rose-colored glasses. Can't help it. I know, it's annoying at times.
15) I love JMU football. Go Dukes!
16) I get more like my mom every year, and that's a very good thing.
17) I hate cleaning and cooking.
18) I anthropomorphize pretty much everything.
19) I have a crazy sweet tooth, but do not like pies or other fruit desserts.
20) I am a live-to-eat person.
21) I have become a better student as I have gotten older.
22) I love reality tv because it is a fly-on-the-wall view of people and people are fascinating.
23) I am still trying to sell my house in VA (shameless plug).
24) I hate talking on the phone.
25) I play online video games a lot in my down time. Love them!
Just discovered my phone has a Vox application. Pretty cool... If it works. The Facebook application was posting things 3 or 4 times so I quit using it. Fingers crossed for this one.
I'm "telecommuting" today which means I am working from home in between getting distracted by every "ding" and "ping" notification from my computer... Sheesh... Four hours on the job is going to turn into eight.
I subscribe to the Cracked.com blog because they occasionally have things that I think are funny. One of today's entries is worth re-posting here because it actually made me lol... for real. You can read the whole entry here.
So, the premise is they asked their flock of fans to use Photoshop to show some things we might not have noticed the first time we looked at some of the world's most famous pictures. Heh heh. I'm posting my favorites below, but there are 21 in total. Enjoy!
There were two things that happened while I was experiencing the Inauguration that I think are worth shar
ing.1) Being the geek that I am, I thought the CNN Facebook partnership was the coolest thing since the iPhone. I tuned in at about 10am and things went well for a while, but about 11:30 right as things were getting to the important stuff, the video feed slowly but surely starting buffering until it finally just completely failed. Boo!
So, away to a TV I raced, laptop in hand, to watch and still be able to communicate with my friends who were also watching online. For those of you who use Twitter, the CNN-Facebook partnership was a lot like Tweeting on Facebook, which I have decided to call Fweeting. The fweets were aggregated into two channels, one that was just your friends' fweets and one that showed everyone's fweets. I loved the friend channel and I have to say the ability to chat virtually AND in person with friends was pretty amazing. This is what it looked like, video feed FAIL and all.
But that's not the interesting part. The interesting part is that the first TV I was watching suddenly died. Weird, huh? When have you ever seen a TV just fizzzzztttt and be gone? Me, never. So of course I fweeted "Arrrrggghhhhh...The TV I was watching just DIED". It was funny/noteworthy because I had one technology fail (the video feed from CNN) then another technology fail (the TV) JUST as Biden was getting sworn in. Aaaarrrggghhhh!
But that's also not the interesting part. The interesting part is that the fweet about the Tv dying got DELETED from both my Facebook page and the fweet stream!!! How do I know? Because a friend replied to my fweet and when I went back to respond to her I was informed that the post was no longer available. Dun dun duuuuunnnnnnnnnn!
Yes, it appears "Big Brother" was watching and I can only assume that "died" was a word that was being screened and removed due to national security type reasons. Interesting, huh? So I'm probably now on the watch list.
2) The second thing I noticed is this cute little logo right smack on the front page of the CNN website.
I wonder how much Starbucks had to pay for that? Hmmmmmm? 50 million billion dollars, I'm sure. I sure hope it was worth it.
This one does not seem to be plastered all over the news like the tomato/jalapeno scare last summer... At the root the recall includes Austin and Keebler branded Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers, as well as some snack-size packs of Famous Amos Peanut Butter Cookies and Keebler Soft Batch Homestyle Peanut Butter Cookies.
Penn State supplies 'BaRocky Road' ice cream for inaugural gala
Thursday, January 15, 2009
From the Penn State public relations office:
University Park, Pa. -- When Barack Obama made a campaign visit to Penn State during the primaries last March -- which included a stop at the Dairy Research Center, where he bottle-fed a calf -- it was way too premature to order ice
cream from the University's legendary creamery for his inauguration.
But it turns out he didn't need to. Taking note of Obama's interest in dairy, and following up on a tip from inside the Beltway, the University's College of Agricultural Sciences has taken care of everything, coming up with three flavors to honor the president-elect and his new administration: "BaRocky Road," "Obama White House" and "BidenBerry." They will be served at the 2009 Pennsylvania Inaugural Gala the evening of Jan. 20.
Known around the world for its fabulous ice cream, Penn State's Berkey Creamery -- the largest on-campus creamery in the country -- has a tradition of concocting special flavors to commemorate significant events and famous people, such as football coach Joe Paterno (Peachy Paterno). In 2000, when the National Governors Association held its summer meeting at Penn State, the creamery made "Ridge's Road" ice cream for then-Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, and ended up selling it in the creamery salesroom for a few years.
Creamery manager Tom Palchak noted that he shipped 40 tubs, or 120 gallons, of the special flavors for the inaugural ball to the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C.
" 'BaRocky Road' is a rocky road or tin roof sundae flavor, vanilla ice cream with chunky add-ins such as peanuts, brownies, candy and chocolate swirl," he said. " 'Obama White House' is vanilla ice cream with maraschino cherries, and 'BidenBerry' is vanilla ice cream with red raspberry variegate through it."
I made the BEST BEST BEST guacamole last night. I tweaked a recipe by Alton Brown of the Food Network. Yeah, like I'm such a great cook I should tweak his recipes... ha ha... But I did. So there. His first, then mine.
Alton Brown's Guacamole
Ingredients
- 3 Haas avocados, halved, seeded and peeled
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
- 1/2 medium onion, diced
- 2 Roma tomatoes, seeded and diced
- 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
- 1 clove garlic, minced
Directions
In a large bowl place the scooped avocado pulp and lime juice, toss to
coat. Drain, and reserve the lime juice, after all of the avocados have
been coated. Using a potato masher add the salt, cumin, and cayenne and
mash. Then, fold in the onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and garlic. Add 1
tablespoon of the reserved lime juice. Let sit at room temperature for
1 hour and then serve.

I just microwaved my Campbell's soup with the metal lid on. Umm hmm... Yes indeed I did. Fortunately there were no disasters like the container exploding or the microwave exploding. Whew! That would have elevated me to bonehead extraordinaire.
Mmmm Mmmm Good

I want to get a set but think they may go on clearance sometime soon. anyone know the timing? I'm thinking Lowes, or Home Depot, or Sears or somewhere like that. With my luck I'd buy a set and they would go on clearance the next week.
Anyone know? I just realized she's not on Vox anymore. I miss her.
